English Language V

Today's lesson: Simile - n, a figure of speech in which one thing is likened to another dissimilar thing by the use of the words 'like' or 'as' to give particular emphasis.

Familiar examples:
  • as agile as a monkey
  • as hard as nails
  • as obstinate as a mule
  • as light as a feather
Unfamiliar collection of similes I encountered:
  • as baffled as Adam and Eve on Mother's Day
  • as bald as a baboon's arse
  • noisy like a skeleton on a tin roof
  • as old as the Dead Sea when it was only ill
  • as premenstrual as a tampon with a lit fuse
  • rare like rocking-horse shit
  • as tight as a camel's arse in a sandstorm
  • as useful as a grave robber in a crematorium
  • as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit
  • as much use as a chocolate teapot.
I kid you not, I have met these.
