Wishful Thinking

At the stroke of midnight on New Year's Day a father clasped his hands and prayed for a miracle – for his missing daughter to return home.

The father of hairdresser Ria Sookdeo said he believes his daughter was alive and would be reunited with her two young children.

Frankie Rajkumar, a father of three, said his family attended church on Old Year's Night.

“But this time was different. Ria was not there. And as the countdown began to ring in the new year, I put my hands together and said 'God, give me some kind of answers. I know you are a good God. Please, let someone come forward with information on my child.' And I know in my heart that my prayers would be answered,” he said.

Uh huh… and on my next birthday, I’ll shit cubic diamonds.

Shot in the Arse

A woman police constable (WPC) attached to Barataria Police Station had to be rushed to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex at Mount Hope yesterday after she was shot while performing duties at the station.

At about 1 p.m. yesterday, the WPC, who is attached as a Special Reserve Police officer, was seated in the charge room of the station taking a report when a loud explosion was heard.

The officer felt a burning sensation to her buttocks and leg and she soon realised that she had been shot.

The injured officer was then rushed to the hospital, where she was treated by doctors on call.

Police sources said the bullet had penetrated her buttocks and lodged in her ankle.

Senior officers from the division, including Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Boxhill and Superintendent Trim, visited the station following the incident and ordered that an investigation be launched to determine the cause of the shooting.

They were then expected to visit the injured woman at hospital.

Police sources said that initial enquiries indicated that a licensed firearm at the station had been accidentally discharged.

Investigations are continuing.

The above is the entire article from the Express. The highlighted parts will explain my title. (^_~)

It does raise some questions though. For example, looking at some of the details, I observe she was seated. The bullet penetrated her backside and lodged in her ankle, meaning it had a downward trajectory. The question then arises, where did it come from? Some smartass will say “a gun” at this point, but there is a certain mystery here that needs an answer. Did the bullet come from a fellow officer’s gun? Or, did she have it tucked in her waist at the small of her back (do police have a ‘small of the back, given their rotund shapes?), and it went off, blasting a hole in her derrière?

If the first situation, then how did a fellow officer manage to fire a gun in a charge room? Carelessness? Deliberate maliciousness? If the second situation, why was the gun not holstered and the safety on?

But here’s the bothersome thing… if a person is seated in a chair, and the bullet comes at the buttocks, how does it end up in an ankle? I mean, the ankles are not in alignment with the butt, under the chair so to speak. Just picture a person sitting, or try it yourself. That bullet would have to go through the WPC’s bottom, through the chair and into the ankle. This story doesn’t make sense.

I note that the article did not present any in-depth, probing questions by the reporter to the authorities and investigators. We must be satisfied with “initial enquiries indicated that a licensed firearm at the station had been accidentally discharged”.

Still, it’s hilarious and I make no apologies for finding humour in the situation… I’m a Trini, I can laugh at almost anything.

TnT Equipped for Ebola!!!

I does laugh like ah demented hyena when I read articles like this. 'Officials' does say anything to make themselves look good. We, the people (at least, me!) know better.

Remember they said that about that Chikungunya? When reality hit, is 87 and counting cases spreading like bushfire in March. Reality shows, they only think they prepared, when the real thing hit, they scrambling like a hornerman looking for clothes when he get ketch.

By the time a diagnosis is made, that person would have exposed himself/herself to the A&E department with hundreds of persons present. Epidemic right there, given the contagious nature of the disease.

Allyuh better pray allyuh eh see even the backside of ebola. I shudder to think what the reality will be.

The Case of The Missing Goat

Kevin Baldeosingh shows once again why he’s the Master of Satire!

“Were it not for the droppings,” my good friend and Trinidad’s greatest detective Sherlock Homeboy told me afterwards, “I might never have solved the case.”

This was a startling admission from Homeboy who, as readers may remember, had, through close examination of a toilet, deduced the last meal of a vanished chairman of a State commission. As he had said to me at the time, “Alimentary, my dear Watsingh.”

Yet the case of the missing goat must surely rank among the most difficult cases that Homeboy had ever investigated. Indeed, in reviewing my files, I find only three matters which came as close to stymieing my friend’s unparalleled powers of deduction. These were “The Case of the Purloined E-mail”, in which he had to track down a first edition Oxford English Dictionary to deduce the meaning of “purloined”; and “The League of 34”, in which he observed the average time MPs can hold a pee in order to ensure jail is illegal for multi-millionaires; and “The Case of the Plagiarised Prisoner”, in which he trained ten monkeys to type and so substantially reduced the price of legal arguments.

It was a dark and stormy night when the client came to our quarters at 22 Bake & Shark Street. Even before the knock sounded at the door, Homeboy, who was playing his steelpan at the window, remarked, “I see we are about to be visited by the Prime Minister.”

“Good god, Homeboy!” I exclaimed, “How on earth did you deduce that?”

“Ah, Watsingh,” he said. “You see, but you do not observe. Surely you noted the helicopter landing on the road outside?”

I said, “Yes, but I assumed they were looking for Dana Seetahal’s killer.”

“No,” said Homebody, “for they didn’t even set up roadblocks. Even so, it is possible for a National Security helicopter to be used for matters of national security. Hence my second observation, which is the black car parked outside with the letters P and M on the number plate.”

I clapped my hands. “Now that you have explained it, it seems so simple!”

“Yes,” said Homeboy ruefully. “Perhaps, like Integrity Commission chairman Ken Gordon, I should keep my methods secret so as to have more respect.”

It was at that moment that a heavily-veiled woman entered. “Mr Homeboy!” she exclaimed, in a voice trembling with despair and Vat 19, “I am in desperate need of your assistance.”

Homeboy sank into his armchair and steepled his fingers. “Yes, Madam Prime Minister,” he said, “I am willing to assist you in any way I can for ten times my usual fee.”

The PM tore off her veil. “That is acceptable. I see you are even more formidable than your reputation, Mr Homeboy.”

Homeboy inclined his head. “Give me the particulars, omitting no detail, however small.”

“Very well. I was wearing a pair of Louis Vuitton boots, retail price US$5,579.24, plus a cute bolero top designed by Mei Ling—”

She went on in this vein for 45 minutes, before coming to the goat. “We had him specially imported for a curry duck lime. But some of the guests don’t like duck.”

“Which guests?” Homeboy asked.

“The acting Police Commissioner, State board members, most doctors.”

“I see. So it’s a matter of empathy. Continue.”

“The goat had been blessed by a pastor, ohmed by a pundit, sanctified by a babalawo, and halaled by an imam. Even vegetarians could not object to its currying. But, when time came to cook it, the goat had disappeared.”

Homebody leapt to his feet. “I must examine the scene!”

At the PM’s house, he scrutinised the yard, paying particular attention to the African violets. “Notice, Watsingh, how this flora is here only for cosmetic purposes,” he told me sotto voce.

He then went inside to the hall, where he took out his magnifying glass and peered closely at the marble tiles. And it was here that he found the droppings.

“I see the goat was a Chigu,” Homebody said, holding one of the channa-shaped nodules between thumb and forefinger. “About two years old, female, with a flirtatious manner.”

“You are an expert on goats, Mr Homeboy?” asked the PM.

“I once did a monograph on 140 different types of faeces,” Homeboy explained, “although I still cannot talk crap as well as President Carmona.”

He stood pensively in the middle of the hall. “Notice, Watsingh, the abrupt cessation of the droppings. This goat was taken suddenly, but not violently.”

He turned to the PM. “Madam, the person who kidnapped your goat has a large jaw, no tact, and lacks expertise in criminal law.”

“Oh, thank you, Mr Homeboy,” said the PM, seeming even more agitated. “Here’s your fee. The police can take it from here.”

The next day the police raided a roti shop in Laventille and seized all the curry goat, but the evidence was eaten by SRPs.

Hitler reacting to PP winning elections

This has to be one of the most hilarious videos I’ve ever seen… the subtitled words are so funny. The sad part is, they are made funnier by the ring of truth they carry! Not to mention the passion displayed by the actor, completely in sync with the words.

Ah Deputy Essential

As Penguin (calypsonian) said, “Ah deputy essential”… and Chandresh Sharma is the latest MP/politician whose transgressions have been aired out in the open.

Sharma, married and father of 4 with his legal wife, had an extra-marital affair with one Sacha Singh, a Piarco business-woman who coincidently, was an ex-Miss Trinidad and Tobago contestant.

What appears to be yet a third extra-marital affair, with another woman and which resulted in a 12 years old child, was discovered by Ms Singh. When confronted with the ‘evidence’, Sharma went a little ballistic, as he is wont to do… (remember those car accidents where he slapped the other party?).

Ms Singh rightly made a report to the police.

But the point I want to make is this… is Sharma supporting his ‘outside’ child, or is he, like one former actor/MP, relying on the State to provide ‘Public Assistance’ for the object of his indiscretion? Is this ‘Good Brahmin Boy’ spending quality time and providing the love and attention his child needs?

On the other hand, ah have to ask Sacha Singh, what the hell she saw in Sharma? Not only is he ugly on the outside, the inside seem rotten to the core. He is also nearly twice her age, although he looks a hell of a lot older than the 54 he actually is.

It seems Jumbie’s First Law strikes again.

Prohibited entry

Kevin Baldeosingh has written another cracking, thought-stimulating article in the TT Express Editorial 2013-11-01. This leads defectivesme to understand that, other than persons who are citizens the banana republic of Trinidad & Tobago, the following classes of people are prohibited from entry under Section 8 of Immigration Act of 1974 (amended) to the said banana republic - excerpted from of the Act and not intended to misconstrue the full meaning and purpose of the Act. [Emphasis added by me]:

(a) persons who are idiots, imbeciles, feebleminded persons, persons suffering from dementia and insane persons, and who are likely to be a charge on public funds;
(b) persons afflicted with any infectious or dangerous infectious disease;
(c) persons who are dumb, blind or otherwise physically defective, or physically handicapped, which might endanger their ability to earn a livelihood, or render them likely to become charges on public funds;
(d) persons who have been convicted of or admit having committed any crime, which if committed in Trinidad and Tobago would be punishable with imprisonment for one or more years;
(e) prostitutes, homosexuals or persons living on the earnings of prostitutes or homosexuals, or persons reasonably suspected as coming to Trinidad and Tobago for these or any other immoral purposes;
(f) persons who are reasonably suspected of attempting to bring into Trinidad and Tobago or of procuring prostitutes or other persons for the purpose of prostitution or homosexual or other immoral purposes;
(g) habitual beggars or vagrants;
(h) persons who are likely to become charges on public funds;
(i) persons who are chronic alcoholics;
(j) persons who are addicted to the use of any drug;
(k) persons who are engaged or at any time have been engaged or are suspected on reasonable grounds of being likely to engage in any unlawful giving, using,
inducing other persons to use, distributing, selling, offering or exposing for
sale, buying, trading or trafficking in any drug
; ……….
………………
(n) persons, not included in any other prohibited class, who are certified by a medical officer as being mentally or physically abnormal to such a degree as to impair seriously their ability to earn a living;…………..

Well, Kevin gives his reasons for the Act to be amended further and en passant taps up Prof Teelucksingh – local high-flyer.

The Captain has responded to Kevin as follows:

“Ayye Kev, maybe yuh should be a bit more circumspect. :) ;)
When you t'ink about ".... idiots, imbeciles, feebleminded persons, dements and insane persons; infected with dangerous diseases; dumb, blind or otherwise physically defective, or physically handicapped, criminals or those intent on committing crime; prostitutes, homosexuals or persons living on the earnings of prostitutes or homosexuals; habitual beggars or vagrants; chronic alcoholics; drug addicts and traffickers.. and people who draw on public funds etc. - don't you t'ink dee country overflowing a'ready wid deese people, largely products of the very soil in which they were born and bred?
Ah mean, deese locally produced miscreants collectively impact heavily on the Nation's health, security and the public purse. Ah doh t'ink dey could take much more from abroad, boy.
So as a fella who would embrace utilitarianism (in part, or at times), I'm sure you can see some value in the Act as worded? Doh add tuh dee ppl problem nuh. Eh boy? Talk nuh. LOL.”

..and to another comment as follows:

“For the benefit or all - your (historical) English Colonial Masters - had embedded what is oft referred to as Human Rights in your Constitution.
The English fought hard to contribute to and create the European Convention of Human Rights in the years leading up to allyuh premature Independence. They were wise to embed almost the very same principles in your Constitution. Sadly they could not have foreseen that it would take 50-odd years for a Nation to wake up on that! 'Twas therefore like pearl before swine!
So - it's not just 'Human Rights', it's your Constitutional Rights. Citizens need look no further in the first instance than their Constitution (readily accessible online).
Only where your Constitution is in need of assistance, should International Treaty or Convention be reached for.
The said Immigration Act is a pack of nonsense because I'm sure that on several counts it would be incompatible with the purposive interpretation of the Constitution or International Conventions on Human Rights. But keep in mind that your fav Rock has been drifting away from 'Human Rights' for some time. Does anybody remember when T&T tore up their agreement with the IACHR? Allyuh fellas have weak-brains or what? Notwithstanding, the Constitution stands strong.
The Immigration Act as worded is sure evidence that a premature Independence and poor attention to development of the law, has left your Rock 'frozen in time' - right where the Colonial Masters lef' allyuh. The wording of that act is that which you would find in archaic English law - which the English themselves had the mental fortitude to throw out donkeys years ago.”
