Several days ago, I finally (after some time searching) obtained a copy of the following songs, commentary calypsoes that really rock!
- Sinking Ship - Gypsy
- Little Black Boy - Gypsy
- Voices in the Ghetto - Singing Sandra
- Die with my Dignity - Singing Sandra
- Government Boots - Gabby
and another classic, King Liar - Lord Nelson.
I put these in my MP3 player and listen to them every so often, usually while working. I cannot help some strong admiration for the beautiful ways the words are strung together and the very, very strong message they carry.
It saddens me that people pay little heed to the message, only enjoying the melody, and it saddens me more that Machel is a bigger role model from all the 'toro-ing' and 'jumbie-ing' when it is clear these composers are more worthy.
Another sign of decaying times.
