This morning, all local newspapers have headlines shrieking Trinidadian terrorist in plot to bomb JFK. Tactical assessment says that the devastation caused would outweigh that of 9/11 and also that destroying JFK will cripple the US economy.
On a national level, its hard to feel sorry for the US, being the big bully it has lately become, it is easily a target for all with grouses against its heavy handed tactics. The red herrings though are surfacing.
On a more personal level, I cannot imagine the grief and horror that the death and destruction would cause. I also cannot imagine any grouse big enough to cause such wanton destruction under any circumstances but one. I think in the case of the prisoners at Guantanamo, I too may feel the need to seek revenge on a state that imprisons me for 5+ years with no trial, no hope for freedom, and no legal recourse.
My fear is that the Trinidadian and Guyanese accused of these crimes may well be, without the US providing proof, locked away with the others at Guantanamo, Trinidad and Guyana being two little fish that have no clout to negotiate a fair deal for its citizens.
As an aside, I am not surprised to hear that the Trinidadian has links to the Muslimeen, a group who also make no secret of their terrorist links in the Middle East.
