For the past 2 decades or so, every time a movie comes up trumps, some bright spark (with the IQ of a shoe) decides to make a 'sequel'. And if that wasn't enough, they then decided on 'prequels' to the sequels. And ruined many a career.
Usually, the sequels/prequels can't live up to the promise of the original. Matrix started out great, but lost momentum as rapidly as virus Smith propagated. All those Rocky movies.. well, they fell on the rocks; although, I am impressed with the workout a 60-year-old Stallone still manages in sequel 6.
However, I just came from seeing Die Hard 4.0 and as sequels go, this is quite a show. I'll not give away any plot/spoilers, but it's well worth a look on the big screen. DVD version just won't do for this. And if you can get to an IMAX cinema, better yet.
Die Hard 4.0 and Casino Royale are so far the two best movies of 2007.
