Why nationals don't return

Daily, the newspapers publish horror stories from members of the public who experience service in Trinidad, ranging from the deliberately horrifying to the don't-give-a-damn. Just today, a writer to the Guardian related an ordeal where it took her 2 DAYS to collect a passport at Immigration in Frederick Street. The letter mentions the abusive (yes, abusive) treatment of some of the personnel, and also the selfish attitudes of those who were seeking their own interests while on the job.

In the same Guardian letters page, another letter writer quoted this:
I am reminded of the comment made recently by one of our successful sons of the soil ... "I am not interested in returning until I know I can work with people who are able to do a job, willing to do a job and anxious to do a job in the best possible way."

I can relate.
