MR MANNING'S groundless sacking of Mr Rowley from the Cabinet last week (for behaving so monstrously in private that four out of five of his Cabinet colleagues were driven to denounce him as impolite), crystallises a theory I've been formulating since the start of this Parliament: the PNM has not assumed the mantle of government but removed its veil, revealing a truth as unassailable as it is unpleasant: we are not a republic at all, but a monarchy, as we have been for the 500-odd years since we slaughtered the pagan indigenous peoples for the glory of Jesus Christ our saviour (and theirs, too, even if they came to Him a trifle unwillingly).
