I recently overheard a colleague complaining that one of his student teachers was 'unprofessional' in the classroom. Another asked him to explain in what way, whereupon he fumbled and finally said words to the effect:"You know, he just wasn't professional!"
My office mate and I then discussed the overheard conversation... what exactly is professionalism and how do you determine when one is or isn't being professional? All I could gather was that the teacher thought a certain standard was not being met; but what? Who defines the standards, and how do you determine when they are met or not?
I'm still looking for answers so if anyone out there knows, feel free to enlighten me.
