PRIME MINISTER Patrick Manning yesterday stoutly defended the activities of special purpose state enterprises (SPECs) saying they are needed to avoid "the bureaucracy" of the public sector, as pressure mounted on his administration to investigate the affairs of the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (Udecott).
Hmm, isn't that 'bureaucracy' there to prevent exactly what is going on at UDeCOTT?
Still, there is going to be an enquiry. I'm clapping my heels and shouting 'Yippee'! Lets hope the corruption of the probe will be minimal.
