THE step-father of a 14-year-old girl who delivered her baby in the toilet of the family's home last week, is man police believe fathered the child.
The teenager and her baby are being cared for at hospital, while police search South Trinidad for the 40-year-old suspect. The girl's mother is also said to be a subject of interest in the case, for failing to report the assault on her child when she was 13-years-old.
The Fyzabad police are also looking for a man who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl at a park near Fyzabad on Monday evening.
The girl told police she went with the suspect and his friend to Sanderson Park, a recreational area in the oil-producing area south of the town at 7 p.m. that day. She said one of the men assaulted her.
The girl was taken to the Fyzabad Police Station by her mother yesterday.
The mother of another 13-year-old took her daughter to the Penal Police Station yesterday to report an alleged sex assault. The girl said a man known to the family had raped her three times in the last month.
And in Tobago, a 38-year-old Mt. Grace man appeared before a Scarborough magistrate yesterday charged with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.
Raymond Nelson was not called upon to plead when he stood before Magistrate Betsy-Ann Peterson, as the charges were laid indictably. He was placed on $100,000 bail and the matter adjourned to July 16.
The court heard that on July 5 at 8.30 p.m., Nelson phoned the student, who recently sat the SEA exams, and took her to the Mt Irvine Beach Facility where he had sexual intercourse with her.
A report was made to the Old Grange police and Nelson was arrested.
