‘If wishes were horses, beggars would ride’.
The first time I heard this, I was about 6 or 7 and heard my father saying these words to someone. I never understood what he meant then of course.
The term came to mind when I read this article.
I looked at some of the ‘wishes’ those guys requested and 2 things came to mind.
The first is that some of those things are so unrealistic (not all, but quite a few) that women will feel men are only materialistic bastaads. Well, they probably do anyway, so this will only fuel that conception.
The second thing that occurred to me was that even the realistic things were very expensive. So, a gal who is not holding a high paying job might feel a little bit put out that she can’t get her man something recommended here.
I dunno whatever happened to giving a good book (men don’t read any more?), or a nice wallet, pen, gift certificate for something he’d like to choose himself, maybe a couple of items for his car…
Some men don’t like clothing much… I prefer picking out my own clothing, and yes, some men do prefer dressing comfortably when there is no need to ‘dress up’. And there is only so much cologne, ties and socks one can wear.
Though there is always one gift that is fully appreciated:
