TWO prisoners were handcuffed and locked away in the compartment of a prisons vehicle that broke off and tumbled along the highway when the vehicle crashed yesterday.The prisoners—teenagers Ricardo Archargee and Mark Vialva—were seriously injured in the crash, which happened at around 8 a.m. on the south-bound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway, near Tarouba.A police constable attached to the South-Western Police Division, who was in the cab of the prisons pick-up, along with Amalgamated Security Services driver Antonio Fuller, was also injured.Archargee and Vialva were handcuffed to each other in the rear compartment at the time of the crash, police said.The prisoners had been picked up at the Youth Training Centre (YTC) in Arouca to be taken to the Siparia Magistrates’ Court where they were expected to appear for several criminal offences.Fuller told police that in the vicinity of the Tarouba stadium, he swerved to avoid a collision.The compartment broke off and fell onto the roadway. The vehicle then struck a guard rail and came to a stop.Police said one of the prisoners suffered head injuries.
Sadly, this is something I've been predicting for quite a long while. The way the drivers of the prisoners' transport drive, they were just begging for an accident such as this to occur. I hope now the prisoners sue Amalgamated and the Prison Service and the AG for a goodly sum.
