On my recent jaunt in Scotland, I remembered Enid Blyton. Many children grew up reading her fantasy tales of fairies, pixies, and other ‘magic folk’ but also her tales of English countryside and rural descriptions. On my visit to the Scottish highlands, I came across heather, gorse and an actual stile, all of which are mentioned in her stories but which I had never actually identified before.
