The description fits

When I described Fuad Khan as a hairy cacahole,  I probably had no idea of the real depth of stupidity nestling within his bosom and brain. However,  the description is eerily accurate.

Khan,  whose party was in power for 5 full years and some months,  failed to note that his party failed on the crime front.  In fact,  despite changing approximately 5 ministers in the national security ministry,  his party was an abysmal failure in every aspect of crime reduction.

Now,  here he comes to chastise the less-than-a-month-old PNM government for failure to reduce crime.

Sadly,  Khan probably lacks the intelligence to know that what his party couldn't do in 5 years,  can't be done in 5 weeks by anyone else. Hairy cacahole indeed.

The election that might be never was

So the UNC has succeeded in challenging the election results for the last general election held in Trinidad on September 7.

It seems that the decision of the Election and Boundaries Commission (EBC) to extend the voting time by one hour due to inclement weather might be a non-statury and /or non-Constitutional scenario... Simply put,  the UNC challenge is that the EBC acted on powers it thought it had.  Possibly a Carmona backlash,  but only he can confirm,  since no one still knows what he was talking about.

The issue I have with the challenge is not whether the EBC pulled a Carmona... That always bears investigation. For me the issue is why the UNC is challenging only a few constituencies,  and not the country as a whole. I don't think that the extended time applied only to the particular constituencies under challenge.  Neither do I think it will make a difference in the number of votes,  as the UNC lost by large margins. 16,000 votes less than the PNM. Not to mention the little fact that no one can say how many persons voted after 6 pm! In any constituency...

The legal issue of the power of the EBC needs to be sorted,  but if found that it acted ultra vires (outside the law) then by-election according to that attorney Sturge will not be the answer.  The proper move is a full general election to be called again... And given the unpopularity of the UNC and Kamla's sour grapes concession speech and missteps after,  the UNC may well find itself losing even more votes than the first time.  Kamla Persad-Bissessar hasn't learn from losing 5 elections in the past 5 years,  she appears to want 6 on record.

In any reality,  that's called dotishness.  Sometimes it's best to lick your wounds and hope that they heal.

Safety and parental responsibility

The parents of Breanna Jaglal are understandably distraught over the accidental death of the little girl,  who by all accounts,  got electrocuted while trying to plug in an electronic device to charge it.

This isn't the first time I have known a child to be electrocuted in Trinidad and Tobago.  Neither will it be the last. Why?

Health and safety is not a primary concern for anyone on that Rock.  Even the electrical plugs have a piss poor design that allows little fingers to come into contact with the conducting prongs... Take for example a UK plug which has half of the prongs as a non conducting material and thus only after going in all the way into the socket, can become 'active'.

Couple that with a switch built into the socket so that electricity can be switched on and off...

But my main grouse as a parent is to understand why a child would be allowed to use the plugs and sockets at such a tender age? Punks,  my daughter,  was actually taught by me proper ways to use a plug (how to hold it to keep fingers out of the way,  how to insert it fully,  how to switch on the power AFTER), and other appliances including a fan,  iron,  and yes,  even to stay away from the stove and 'cockset'.  Her training began at crawling age,  pre-toddler.

Until she was ten or older,  she had to get an adult to do certain things for her,  including adjusting the shower for the water to be a safe temperature.  I've even taught her how to use a knife safely in the kitchen.

Why are these not common sense household practices? Are parents just too busy to provide basic guidance,  or to assist children in safety matters?

Do parents on the Rock depend on religion or teachers to teach their children about sex and reproduction? Or do they discuss this with the children themselves?

Everyone has to learn to be a parent,  usually by trial and error... And mistakes are made from cradle to grave with offspring,  but these can be minimal with a little common sense.

Maybe the party atmosphere is preventing some from being responsible ;maybe for others it's the daily rigours of escaping bullets and stray penises as the Captain says...  But the consequences are horrible.

Life goes on

As if we didn't know the inevitable and inexorable march of life continues,  ample proof is to be had as protests and murders do not even falter in wake of elections.

As if to spit in the face of the new government,  people are still going missing,  bodies are popping up everywhere, and children are now defined as persons under 18 years... Except for Hindus and Muslims who are deemed adults at 14 and 12 respectively as this is the legal age to marry and have sex.

Don't worry,  be happy.

Rottweilers and their Gumbs

Since the revelation by Anika Gumbs that she got traumatised by seeing Dr Keith 'Rottweiler' Rowley bareback,  several questions came to my mind.

How traumatised is she when she goes to the beach?

How traumatised is she at carnival?

Does her sexual partner remain fully dressed? Is she traumatised after 'the deed'?

How did her trauma compromise her status as a reporter at the Express?

Why did it take three months before the compromise and trauma trigger the resignation?

What was she doing in that three months?
What link,  if any,  does the trauma have to do with the discovery that she has contracts with the State,  from the Government,  which is currently waging a distasteful campaign of personal crucifixion against Rowley?

These aren't all the questions... There are some I think the Express has to answer too.

What is the nature of the compromise that led Gumbs to resign?

Why was the individual not identified and the Express not insist on knowing who traumatised its reporter?

Why accept a resignation three months after the incident?

Nothing in this incident leads me to think that Ms Gumbs is making sense. There's something rotten in Denmark,  as the saying goes.

Perhaps the true story will be revealed after the election.

On servitude

"Never before in human history have so few owed so much to so many. A handful of men in this country have trained the remaining 99.9 per cent – as strong, as talented, as intelligent in every way – to exist in perpetual servitude; a servitude so strong that you can put the key of his emancipation in a man’s hands and he will throw it back at you with a curse. Ministers clueless

With regards to the finding of ganja at the home of the Prime Minister,  why do I believe Jack? Seems everyone who was involved in the cover-up is denying it happened.

Griffith denies,  Moonie denies,  Rambachan push in to deny...  But they all forgot THAT IT WAS CONFIRMED BY THE STATION DIARY ENTRY verified by the Express.

Now,  does that bother Moonie etc al in their denial? Not at all... Why let facts get in the way?

I wonder...

... If Jack Warner is still HNIC... 😈

I can't keep up

I haven't posted anything on this blog for a while while,  for two reasons:

1) Exams (final) kept me busy,  and
2) The level of bullshit that kept rising was intolerable...  And yes,  mind-boggling.

Not only did we have the government using its majority as a blunted sword to eject the Leader of the Opposition,  we also saw more than the usual rush to pass legislation which would benefit UNC supporters and mamaguy the population.  Not that the people need much of that,  anyway.

We also had a whole new level of bullshit served up on a silver platter by none other than Jack Warner.  As I predicted on 2010 (search for Cream or Crap)  tying herself to Jack came back to bite Kamla in the arse.

Now that the chickens have come home to roost for him,  and nearly 4 decades of misdeeds are catching up with him,  he apparently wants to take down a few high profile people with him.  FIFA of course will be in his sights,  but so far his "guns" are aimed at the UNC.

What I want to know,  more that who stole what and how,  and more than section 34, is whether the alleged plot to assassinate a reporter is true... That came from Email - gate for those who forgot.  To me,  that signifies a certain nastiness of behaviour and a spit in the face for law enforcement by those involved.  And make no mistakes,  I believe that those who are allegedly involved are fully capable of doing it.

So Jack,  relieve the pressure on your chest,  and come clean.  Tell us who is involved and what role "Tanty"  Kamla has in this fiasco... Was she directly involved or was she kept in the dark while the 'cabal'  plotted?

You see,  I've always figured her to be dotish and a mere figurehead.  She hasn't the intelligence or the stones,  pun unintended,  to be decisive.  The population knows it,  if subconsciously.  Look at all the Facebook and Twitter and social media comments... Everyone comments how "pretty" she is and ascribes to her a "queenly" beauty.  I have yet to see one comment,  among thousands,  that describes her capacity for hard work or intelligent leadership.  Why? The population knows,  of course.  They know that the PM is a fine example of a dunce.

But lest you think I'm being harsh,  dear readers,  look at the evidence.  It's too plentiful to ignore and has been cited time and time again on this blog.

Still,  given that Jumbie's First Law is absolute,  I fully understand the chances of a reelection in her favour is not an impossibility. Go figure.

Political Cowardice

Yesterday,  the headlines resounded with the Prime Minister's political cowardice in the face of giving the LGBT community 'equal rights'.

The 'senior counsel' is of the view that to give LGBT persons equal rights will require a 'referendum',  and that such action right now is not' prudent'.

Obviously,  with elections due next year,  the PM is wary of her political survival,  and is unwilling to tackle any contentious issue,  including this one.

But,  as a 'senior counsel',  the PM ought to be aware that the laws against the LGBT community are illegal.  Not might be,  but actually are.  Given that the Constitution is granting equal rights to all,  those laws that ban homosexuality etc are ultra vires...  Outside of the Constitution.

Oddly enough,  these laws have not been challenged by the LGBT community in court... I'm inclined to the notion that if these are challenged at the Privy Council,  they will be declared incompatible with the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

Language woes

"If ya don't understand I ain't wasting me toyme telling ya...."

The spelling of a 60+ years old British male.

As I've observed out loud before,  no one mangles the English language like the English. Non English people,  foreigners,  speak and write and spell so much better.
Crazy,  right?
