Even though an election is around the corner, and it's serious business, every politician becomes a comedian at this time. Perhaps it's the reason we call it the silly season, this period leading up to the day we choose our next leaders.
But having Panday around, decrepit old man that he has become, is good for the comical factor alone. I usually accept his rants and statements as the sign of an aging mind, but I admit, the humour in his statements does beat all competitors coming and going.

The big crowd at the Congress of the People's Woodford Square rally was fattened by People's National Movement supporters who were bused in to make the rival opposition party look impressive.
This has to be an attempt at humour, as by no stretch of the imagination can I see something so asinine coming out of the mouth of someone who wants to become a leader of a nation. But then again, he also admits he has sent people himself to that COP crowd (thus contributing to the impressive look of the crowd, right?).
By and large though, the impressive crowd might be people who are fed of the wanton waste of the PNM, and the irrational rants of an old man whose sole mission in life now is clinging to his memories and hoping for them to be repeated.
But for sheer stupidity, comical rants aside, Panday is a hard act to beat. Contantly insulting Winston Dookeran and COP, referring in derogatory terms to both, he wonders why Dookeran and the COP doesn't align with the UNC.
The death knell of the UNC and its pitiful 'alliance' has already sounded, and from the leaps and bounds in the COP's growth, I see that the masses are awakening, slowly but surely.

Basdeo Panday, who yesterday criticised the COP's leader Winston Dookeran for not uniting against the party in Government.Surely the stupidity of insulting the one person who could possibly help you has occurred to him, and if not, why has his 'advisers' not pointed this out to him? I've always thought that Panday was showing signs of dementia but alas, no one seems to be brave enough to suggest a psych exam for him.
