The ire is raised; the blood boils - how dare he?
How dare Pa-trick call elections on November 5th, when Diwali is on November 9th? I see in so many articles here, there and everywhere that this is an insult to Hindus. WHY?
I am a Hindu, I feel no insult. If Diwali is a time of celebrating the triumph of good over evil, then the election date may well be an omen for them to assist in that change they so carp about. It's a time of new beginnings, of forgiveness, of thanksgiving... all the things we should be looking forward to... so why the moaning and groaning?

The fact is, the complainants see that to take 2 hours off 5 days before Diwali to vote for fundamental rights and freedoms, for change, for betterment, for a chance at a future with a difference - as being a chore. It's easier to complain and carp on the unfairness, to compare with Christmas, Eid, and other sundry celebrations rather than get off your arses and do your civic duty.
The real reason an election cannot be tabled for Carnival is that the backbone of voters of the PNM are too busy 'fete-ing' and partying to vote, hence the PNM rightfully sees that as a lost cause. While this sector of the population has demonstrated the substance of their priorities time and time again, are Hindus so irresponsible to shirk their duty for the sake of one festival? Especially when the time required is so little?

It is indeed the silly season, and it is not only affecting the politicians and dunceys, but pervading upon formerly sane people.
