The concept of growth, even by 'borrowing' from developed societies, seems not to have entered the lexicon of the Trinbagonian society. The idea is to persist in doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result. Or, if that is not suitable, doing study after study to find solutions, but never implement any suggestions. Alternatively, bury their collective heads in the sand and be shafted up the nether hole.
Nothing brought this to my mind this morning more than this news story:
Two women arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a 79-year-old man was killed in an attack by a dog in Liverpool, have been bailed.
Clifford Clarke, 79, was mauled in the garden of his home in the Clubmoor area of Liverpool on Saturday.
The animal, described by police as being "out of control", was shot by armed officers.
The women, aged, 27 and 28, and from Clubmoor, were arrested and later bailed.
They had been held on suspicion of manslaughter and an offence under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Police said the attack took place shortly after 20:30 BST and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
The breed of dog has not been confirmed but nearby residents said it looked like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
I have written before on the TnT Dangerous Dog Act (DDA) that "So far, I see nothing in this Act that is either draconian or unfair." I have no reason to change my position, seeing that at this point in time there is nothing in place to hold owners of dangerous dogs accountable.
Contrast this with the story above... the owners are actually charged with manslaughter and an offence under the British DDA. Note: DDA - it still exists, despite dog owners in Trinidad barking that it was repealed in the UK.
But I want to point out something so small it may be missed entirely - the breed of dog is irrelevant to it being classified as a dangerous animal!
The fact remains that Trinbagonians never learn, and show remarkable density in adopting working systems from other countries. They insist on reinventing the wheel time and time again, to great loss of time, financial resources and man hours. They live within the dung heap and fail to see the wider world with the infinite possibilites. Scarabaeoidea (scarabs) are shit eaters... they consume and thrive on it, much like Rockians thrive on 'commess', 'bachanal', 'kangkalang'... In other words, the Trini society thrives on the waste that developed societies discard.
Me? I get more and more disgusted daily with the antics of politicians, 'leaders' (religious and otherwise), and those who allow these people to lead them through the nose... it's a close call between the herd instinct posit and the dung beetle postulate... somehow, the dung beetle seems to be rolling ahead.
